The programme leading to a Diploma of Theology is designed to give students basic post-12th or 10+2 grade training for ministry in today’s Ethiopia. Students will develop easy understanding of evangelical faith and ministry. Specific objectives of the programme are as follows:
- Graduates will have sufficient biblical and theological knowledge to teach in certificate level Bible schools, to participate in pastoral ministries or to assist in other vocational and non-vocational work in the church.
- Graduates will demonstrate mature Christian character by promoting church unity, being willing to serve at any church level, and by meeting general spiritual qualifications of an elder.
- Graduates will possess ministry skills sufficient for impacting the church through pastoral ministry, evangelism, or Christian education.
The ETC will consider applicants for the Dipl.Th. programme who have graduated from 12th grade with a minimum 1.6 GPA and a C in English. To be awarded a Diploma of Theology a student must satisfactorily complete 61 semester hours of academic credit and three hours of Field Education credit. This is equivalent to two years of full-time study but is also designed to be completed in four years of part-time study with all course work completed through evening classes. Students complete academic credits in Bible, Theology, General Education, and Ministry Studies as well as fulfilling the Field Education requirements which include Spiritual Formation (3 hours) and two semesters of Reported Ministry through a local church. When students accumulate 45 hours of credit, the faculty reviews each student’s progress toward graduation in academic, field education, and spiritual development areas. Upon completion of the required hours of study, each student’s performance is reviewed by the Administrative Council. If a student has met all requirements for graduation (academic, ministry, spiritual, and administrative), the ETC will issue the student a Diploma of Theology.
