The Associate of Theology programme is designed to give men and women thorough biblical and theological training for non-vocational service in the church in Ethiopia. The programme specifically targets individuals who have a first degree and desire to serve the church while maintaining a career outside the church. Specific objectives of the programme are as follows:
- Graduates will have sufficient biblical and theological knowledge to provide non-vocational teaching and leadership of urban churches.
- Graduates will demonstrate mature Christian character by promoting church unity, being willing to serve at any church level, and by meeting general spiritual qualifications of an elder.
- Graduates will have improved their existing ministry skills and be motivated to use them within a proper biblical framework.
Please Note: ACTEA does not accredit the A.Th. programme. However, all courses are automatically transferred when application is made to join the B.Th. programme. A first degree is not a prerequisite for admission to the A.Th. Programme.
To be awarded an A.Th. a student must satisfactorily complete 63 semester hours of academic credit and 3 hours of Field Education credit. While this is equivalent to two years of full-time study, an ambitious student can complete the programme in four years of part-time study, attending classes only in the evenings. Students complete academic credits in Bible, Theology, General Education, and Ministry Studies as well as fulfilling the Field Education requirements which include Spiritual Formation (3 hours) and two semesters of Reported Ministry through a local church. When students in the programme accumulate 45 hours of credit, the faculty reviews each student’s progress toward graduation in academic, field education, and spiritual development areas. Upon completion of 63 hours of study, each student’s performance is reviewed by the Administrative Council. If the Council determines that a student has met all requirements for graduation, it will recommend the student to the Board of Directors to receive the A.Th.
