This is a time of celebration at the Evangelical Theological College (ETC) for we have witnessed and enjoyed God’s goodness and faithfulness for the last 40 years, and we want to take time and praise the Lord.
The Evangelical Theological College’s 40th Anniversary Celebration
God has helped ETC to come this far from its humble beginning in 1983. ETC had only two classrooms and one Diploma program in theology initially. Through the grace of the Lord, ETC gradually expanded both in facility, programs and faculty. Currently, we have a B.Th. program with nine ministry majors and five MA programs that are unique to programs provided in other theological institutions in Ethiopia; and some to theological institutions in Eastern of Africa. We have included online and vacation classes as well.
In addition, ETC had only one graduate on its first graduation in 1988. But today ETC has graduated close to 1800 students who are serving the Lord and His people in different capacities in Ethiopia and beyond. Furthermore, ETC has grown from one campus in Addis Ababa to a second campus in Hawassa, Southern Ethiopia.
How Great is our God! He has established the work of our hands, and brought us this far. We believe this celebration is not only for us here at ETC but also for you our friends and partners who have journeyed with us and supported us through your unceasing prayers and resources through the years.
Invitation
We celebrate the 40th Anniversary of ETC combined with the 2023 graduation. We would like to extend our warm invitation to all our friends and partners to join us on June 10, 2023 in this day of praise and festivity. It would be an honor and a delight to see our friends coming to celebrate God’s faithfulness to ETC and the Ethiopian church through the years.
Prelude of Events to the Grand Final Celebration of the 40th Anniversary
We have already begun our celebration on the 16th of March 2023 with a “Worship and Music in the Church” seminar. The seminar was held on March 16-17, 2023, led by Dr. Ron Man. There were ministers who serve in the area of worship in their churches and ETC students who attended the seminar.
Dr. Ron Man explained “There is no theology without doxology and there is no doxology without theology.” God needs to be known before He is worshipped and for this reason, He revealed Himself to us. Worship is always a response to God’s invitation and initiation of His love to us. Praise is a response to who God is and what He has done! We praise God for our time and we bless Dr. Ron for his willingness to share this priceless lesson with us. Dr. Man also taught a block MA course in Praise and Worship.
On April 1,2023 we also conducted a Praise and Worship Concert commemorating the 40th Anniversary celebration. Different Choirs and Solo singers took part and participated at this special event and helped us to praise and worship God for all His faithfulness in leading and blessing ETC to equip servants for the Ethiopian Church beyond. Brother Negussie Bulcha also shared the word of God.
The third event was a lecture on “Spiritual Warfare for Kingdom Advance” held on April 7,2023. The speaker was Dr. Jason DeRouchie, Research Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The lecture was well received by participants who came from different sister theological institutions. We are very grateful to Dr. DeRouchie for reminding us that we are Christ’s solders involved in a spiritual warfare to advance His Kingdom.
The fourth event was a 40th Anniversary Get Together of ETC Alumni and current students of ETC that was held on May 5,2023. We traveled to the SIM Retreat Center at Babogaya, Debrezeit. It was a time of great fellowship where former ETC graduates gave their testimonies about the impact of ETC in their lives and ministries. Dr. Mamusha Fenta one the early graduates of ETC was the keynote speaker at the event.
Many friends who have not seen each other for many years were happy to see each other and rekindle their friendship. Dr. Frew Tamrat the principal of ETC briefly presented ETC’s 40 years journey and future plans.
Each event which we celebrated so far as ETC family has been a great experience. We are now eagerly awaiting for the final celebration which will be the pinnacle of our 40th year commemoration that will be held on June 10th along with the 2023 commencement ceremony. God has given us a huge opportunity to praise and worship Him for His faithfulness in these past 40 years and we want you to be part of this great celebration since you have been with us and supporting us as the Lord led you.
